Terug in de woestijn/Return to the Desert The play is set in Metz, a ghetto of Algerian immigrants and a neo-colonialist provincial town filled with racial hatred. Mathilde had fled to Algeria because she is alleged to have had a relationship with a German soldier. She denies it, but who is right? The dirty washing hanging outside in the hypocritical bourgeois environment of this Metz was made dirty by the bourgeoisie itself. A story about a mercilessly damaged person. The photo of the woman was manipulated and polished up by Bertus van der Lee. It’s real sand, by the way!
