The whitewashed ballet posters inspired me to make this poster. The theme was the European avant-garde just after World War II. I took the poster Weerbare democratie by Dick Elffers and whitewashed it to use it as background. The typography was taken from a type catalogue by Piet Zwart. A rip-off, disgraceful! Every time I see this poster, I have to smile, because it does say ‘design: Dick Elffers, Piet Zwart, Anthon Beeke’. As if I had been photographed with the Rolling Stones…
I always take into account the light in mupis. Works out nicely here. During the day it looks very different than at night.
