You can’t tell a story on a poster, so you can’t describe what Medea is about. That’s why I often look for a metaphor as a link between a theatre maker and an audience. Medea is a woman who is subjected to an incredible amount of injustice, but who also makes life hard for others. She murders her sons, husband, brothers – in other words all her male relatives. So it’s all misery and horror. I photographed Kitty Courbois with her mangled face: a classic image of a beautiful actress, you could say. No metaphor!
